Erik HOMEMADE coffee-break Weblog

Quick creative ideas to perk up your day! Craft, cook, quilt, create!

Inspired by his grandmothers and his mother, Pat, Erik has been making things all of his life. After graduating from high school, Erik went to live in Spain, and later, France (Erik is fluent in both languages). In Paris, he earned a three-year BTS degree in fashion design. Erik has always loved teaching as well as crafting, and quilting seemed the next logical step. Erik has been teaching both quilting and crafting for several years, something he greatly enjoys. His creative energy comes from his love of fabric, color, Europe, and the Mid-West. Erik is active with his clubs, groups, and local quilt shop. He considers himself very fortunate to be surrounded by the wonderful, loving, people he enjoys spending his time with.

Extreme Craft

My family has a huge problem with craft. My mother and father participated in just about every craft fad that I can remember. Wire art, macrame, and decoupage in the 70's, and stained glass in the 80's. My mother is an insane quilter, my Aunt Barbara a glass painter. One great-grandfather was a blacksmith, another collected and carved gemstones. I was born and raised on a farm in Nebraska, attended art school at the University of Nebraska, then got my MFA in ceramics at Alfred University. Craft has dogged me all my life. I love it, I hate it, I write about it because it seems totally alive to me. I'm currently a designer at Perkins+Will architects in Atlanta, as well as adjunct faculty at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. Craft hard!

Fashion Girl Blog

I love fashion...but it's not about the hottest garment on the runway...it's about what YOU think is hot...it's all about expressing YOURself...it's about YOU!!

I love to be creative...but I'm not a crafter! I guess you could say that I grew up being creative. My mother is an amazing seamstress, my father is an amazing photographer and my brother is an amazing artist. I really don't have an amazing creative talent. My father taught me the basics of photography and I know how to develop black and white photos. My mom made me learn to sew at a young age and I wish I enjoyed it...but I just get so frustrated and I can't tell you how many projects I've started to sew and never finished! And I absolutely cannot draw...not at all. But I do like to find easy ways to make gifts for friends and family. When I have time, I love to make cards for everyone's birthday. If I had more time, I'm sure I would be more creative, but for now I'm satisfied in just shopping for everything!!!!

MADE

A collection of things I've made.  Years back I received a letter at work stating, "I'm an idea man! If you're in the market for ideas, I'm your guy!" I scoffed. Hollywood seemed pretty saturated with ideas.  Today I realize, I was wrong. One can never be short of ideas.  Since most of my inspiration comes from other's ideas, I've decided to share mine too.  Here's what I've MADE.

Make and Takes

Ideas and crafty tidbits for home, family and fun.  I’m a 30 something stay at home mom, who loves to “Make and Take”. Before life as a mother, I graduated with a teaching degree in Early Childhood & Elementary Education, after which I taught four years of Kindergarten. After my first child was born, I decided to read books and sing silly songs at home. I miss the classroom, but I now get to bring the fun and learning into my home. You’ll see my kids a lot in these projects as they are my guinea pigs and who I’m creative for.

make grow gather

A somewhat reluctant blogger and lifelong crafter of many things. In my day job, I assemble  radio stories as an NPR-affiliate reporter and producer. But before that, I grew up in a renovated barn where we rolled back rugs to go roller-skating, always made our Halloween costumes out of big brown boxes, and had a table saw on the second floor until I was in high school. I can't fit one of those in our apartment now, but I do fit a sewing machine, some silkscreening gear, reams of pretty paper and piles of fabric.

me being crafty

Hi. I’m Tsoniki and this is my crafty blog. I love creating, I love finding inspiration. I love picking the perfect colors for whatever I am working on.  I have crafted for years - my Grandma taught me to do beadwork when I was about 11 years old. My Mom taught me to sew and use a sewing machine. Other crafts I have learned from my friends or just because I saw it at a craft store or online. I hope you enjoy my crafts!

Mod Podge Rocks!

Welcome to the world of decoupage! Decoupage, which began in the 17th century, is simply the art of dressing something up with paper and glue. The good news is that today's decoupage is not your grandmother's! Contemporary decoupage works are made with flea market finds, cherished letters or photos, magazine clippings, handmade papers, unique prints, or any other image that strikes the artist's fancy, then it's applied to trays, tables, lamps, walls, floors, furniture, or even ceilings. Explore this unique craft at this blog, which features Mod Podge - the world's most famous decoupaging medium! Here you'll find a wide variety of project ideas, how-tos, tips and links. It's a huge part of my genetic make-up and just plain makes me happy! I'm a graphic designer/art director to put food on the table for my 3 precocious youngsters, but that doesn't always allow me to venture into other artistic areas that I'm interested in...so here I am...trying to carve out any free time I can to create all the endless ideas I have running through my head. So take a look and I hope you like what you see!

The Scrappy Tree

Check out The Scrappy Tree blog.  The blog is run by three girls from different sides of the world who love to be creative. From California and Minnesota in the US to Wales in the UK, they love sharing projects and trying something new, always keeping the sense of fun that brought them together.

They feature a number of guest designers, challenges, prizes and projects every month following different themes and techniques and hope that people can both learn something new and share their projects.

At The Scrappy Tree, being scrappy means anything to do with being creative, including Scrapbooking, Arts and Crafts, Multi-Media Design and everything that falls between. If you enjoy crafting things from scratch and playing about with whatever materials you can get your hands on, this is the place to come.

Thinking Inking

Rubber stamping gives me a creative outlet that fits in with the rest of my life: a card is a small showcase, one that anyone can find time to squeeze in. In addition to rubber stamping, I enjoy reading, music, design, cooking, and my newest creative outlet, stained glass.

My goal in this blog is to verbalize creative thought processes and to be a benefit to others.
