Description:
Project designed by Chris Thornton-Deason - www.ChrisThorntonDesigns.com. Project provided by Delta Creative, Inc..

Step 1: Background Instructions: Using the 1” wash brush basecoat as follows:
- Sides of box mix of equal parts Green Tea and White.
- Tray mix of equal parts Pale Lilac and White.
Lid Sea Foam.

Step 2: Applying Paper: On the back of one sheet of paper, trace around the lid and cut ½” smaller then the lid, apply with double sided adhesive tape.

Step 3: Cut six 4” x 4-1/2” strips for the sides and apply with double sided adhesive tape.

Step 4: From the white cardstock, cut a 4-1/4” x 10”strip, one 3-1/2” x 3-3/4” piece and one 2-3/4” x 3” piece. Do not apply these pieces to the box until you have completed painting.

Step 5: Trim the edge of the 3-1/2" x 3-3/4” piece with the Deckle Edge Scissors.

Step 6: Stamping: Pick up a small amount of Dark Teal using th Paint and Toss Sponge. Pat the excess color off the sponge onto the palette.

Step 7: Pat the color onto the image of the "Baby Baby" stamp using a gentle straight up and down motion. (Do not apply color too heavily or it will fill in the fine cuts of stamp.)

Step 8: Press the stamp firmly onto the long narrow strip lifting straight off. (Rocking or sliding the stamp will cause blurred images.)

Step 9: Repeat this several times in the Dark Teal and then repeat several times in the Tropic Bay Blue.

Step 10: Repeat the entire stamping process onto the small piece of white cardstock with the "Just Arrived" stamp applying both Dark Teal and Tropic Baby Blue to it.

Step 11: Transferring the Pattern: Lay a piece of tracing paper over the pattern and trace all lines except those used to denote shadows. (Shadow lines are generally short straight lines and there are several of them. Main lines are where there are color changes. Detail lines are facial features, patterns on fabric, etc.)

Step 12: Lay the tracing paper onto the surface and tape at the top and on one side.

Step 13: Slide a piece of graphite paper between the tracing paper and the surface with the dark side down; draw over the main lines only. Do not add the detail lines - these will be applied after the basecoating is done.

Step 14: Apply pattern for the giraffe (see image to the left and link below for pattern) to the long narrow strip.

Step 15: Giraffe: Apply a basecoat to the giraffe in Pale Lilac using the #10 shader brush.

Step 16: Apply the dots using the #1 liner brush in the Tropic Bay Blue, Green Tea and Santa’s Flesh.

Step 17: Float the shadows all the way around the outside edge of the giraffe in a mix of equal parts Pale Lilac and Deep Lilac using the #10 shader brush. (Tip: to float, load brush first in floating medium or water and pat off the excess onto a paper towel. Tip one corner of brush into color, blend the color through the bristles using a short back and forth motion on the palette. The color should graduate from heavy color on one corner to no color on opposite corner. If when you begin to paint you have color showing from both sides of the brush, it is improperly loaded. Rinse and start again.)

Step 18: Using the mix from the previous step, apply a basecoat to the mane, feet, and tail using the #1 liner brush.

Step 19: Streak with the Deep Lilac to create hair in the mane and tail using the #1 liner brush.

Step 20: Apply a basecoat to the horns in Sea Foam using the #1 liner brush and shade with Dark Teal.

Step 21: Apply all lines, eyes, and smile with the Black permanent pen.

Step 22: Dab little White highlights in the eyes using the #1 liner brush.

Step 23: Apply a basecoat to the piece of paper cut with the deckle edged scissors in Pale Lilac.

Step 24: To Finish: Adhere reaming piece to the box, referring to the color picture.

Step 25: Apply as many coats of Satin Exterior Interior Varnish as desired.

Step 26: Run a very thin bead of Sobo Glue down each side of the giraffe piece and apply white cording. Tie two bows and glue in place.
